Eligibility checks, prior authorizations, and old AR cleanup go through the same request. If you only need one piece, say so.
There is no right answer for every practice. The usual tradeoffs:
Memphis serves patients from three states. People drive in from north Mississippi and eastern Arkansas to Methodist Le Bonheur, Baptist Memorial, and Regional One, and their coverage is a Mississippi or Arkansas Medicaid plan, or a Blue plan from outside Tennessee, as often as it is TennCare. Regional One is the area's safety-net hospital, and its uninsured volume looks nothing like the private systems'.
Out-of-state Medicaid can be a billing trap. The plan may require the provider to be enrolled in that state to be paid, or may not pay for an out-of-state hospital stay unless it was an emergency or pre-approved. A biller who treats the patient's home state as a detail will generate denials nobody can explain. List the out-of-state plans you see most in your request. Anyone who has done this will recognize them. Expect a Mississippi plan to want different paperwork than an Arkansas one, and expect some denials to be right.
